Bringing a puppy home is always a great joy for everyone, especially for children. For them, it will be a fantastic playmate, but we must always remember that we are dealing with a living being, not a stuffed animal. Welcoming a dog into your life is a joy, but also a commitment, because its entire life will revolve around us, and it will be our duty to take care of it. If you’ve decided you’re ready to take this step, we at Allevastore are here to help and offer some advice on how to navigate this crucial moment in the relationship that will develop between you and your dog—from the dog bed to the kibble.

Preparing Your Home for Your New Puppy

In a few days, a little bundle of energy on four legs will arrive at your home, bringing so much joy into your lives, and it’s time to make a few changes to make it welcoming for him, too. First, let’s find a quiet corner of the house where we can set up his bed: he’ll need a place to relax and feel safe; moving into a new home is a huge change for him, and he’ll need his own space to feel at home. So let’s give him a spacious, soft bed, like a pillow covered with a sheet. You might also consider giving him some old clothes from his humans so he can get used to their scent and feel less lonely during the first few nights. He’ll definitely have energy to spare and a strong desire to play, so let’s give him age-appropriate toys: they should be durable and not too small (there’s a risk they might swallow them); knotted ropes for playing “tug-of-war,” balls, and stuffed animals are great for starting to play with him and building a bond. Then prepare two bowls for them—one for food and one for water—preferably made of non-slip plastic; puppies can be a bit lively even during mealtimes and might otherwise knock them over. Having the bowls or a non-slip plastic mat will limit the damage. But what should you put in the bowls?

Feeding Your Puppy: What Should You Choose for Him?

Just as with children, nutrition during puppyhood and the growth phase will have a significant impact on the animal’s life. When you decide to get a puppy—especially if it’s your first time adopting a dog—it’s a good idea to discuss its diet with an expert, such as the breeder if you’ve decided to get a purebred dog, or a veterinarian if you’ve chosen to adopt a rescue dog from a shelter.

When makingyour choice, you’ll need to consideryour dog’sage, size, and breed, as these arekey factorsin selecting the right food. It’s obvious at a glance that a Maltese and a Doberman have different dietary needs.

Allevastore offers foods suitable for every size (small, medium, or large), starting with puppy food, to meet their nutritional needs; we offer products ranging from Holistic Dog Food Holistic Puppy Mini (Chicken & Duck), ideal for small dogs, to Natural Dog Food Natural Puppy Maxi (Chicken & Pumpkin), ideal for large dogs. On each product’s description page, you’ll also find a chart that helps you determine the right amount of kibble to feed your dog based on its weight. All Allevastore products are made with high-quality fresh meat that is then dehydrated, with the addition of fats rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and vitamins, to provide your puppy with all the nutrients needed to support its growth.

Are you ready to welcome your new puppy into your home? We can’t wait to help you feed him right.
